SAE EXPERIENCE

What inspired you to enter into the career you’re in?

It was Pixar’s short film ‘The Adventures Of Andre and Wally B’ that really inspired me to want to be a 3D Artist. During high school there was very little information on 3D Animation and I was told that if I wanted to go down that path that I’d have to be exceptionally good at math, which wasn’t true. Now the tools for 3D are becoming so good that anyone can pick it up and learn quickly.

Are you able to shed some light on how your time at SAE lead to your first job?

SAE did a good job of getting in reps from successful VFX companies, showing off their company reel and talking about what they do. This got me really pumped since I literally had no idea successful VFX studios even existed in Australia.

What advice would you give to students aspiring to become successful in their field?

I would recommend they have a really solid reel that demonstrates the best of their ability. There will always be work out there so be prepared to move around the globe and keep applying! Most importantly, be nice to people and don’t get an inflated ego. If you’re stressed about a deadline remember to relax, its 3D, we aren’t saving lives here.
