President Joko Widodo has signed Government Regulation (PP) Number 56 of 2021 concerning the management of Song copyright royalties and/or music.
Under that rule, a person who uses songs and/or music commercially or public services is required to pay royalties.

There are at least 14 types of public services that are commercial, including hotels, hotel rooms, hotel facilities, banks, offices, and karaoke businesses. Royalties will be paid to the creator or copyright holder of the song and/or music through the National Collective Management Agency (LMKN).

So how is the mechanism for managing the Copyright Royalties of songs and/or music?

Let’s join the public lecture with Irfan Aulia!

Irfan is the Commissioner of Information Technology of the National Collective Management Agency (LMKN). He started his career in the Indonesian music industry since 2005 as the guitarist and composer of the band Samsons. The following year he founded Massive Music Entertainment (MME) as a minor label and continues to grow to this day. Irfan’s background in founding the label was due to too many musicians not paying attention to the copyright industry. Irfan also joined SAE Indonesia as a teaching staff and Head of Music Business Department.

In 2013, MME officially opened up to manage songs from fellow songwriters, having previously only served the management of songs for the Massive Music catalog, including Samsons and Seringai songs.

In 2019, Irfan was appointed directly by Minister of Law and Human Rights Yasonna Laoly, along with 9 others to become Commissioner of the National Collective Management Agency.
