Jibril Illiyin is SAE’s Animation alumnus. Have worked on many projects during college; represent SAE and Indonesia at the ASIAGRAPH 2016 international event. He is currently studying his master’s degree in England. Check out Jibril’s gait below!

Why were you decided to enroled at SAE Animation programme?

Since i were a little boy, i already had a strong interest in the visual world: images, photography, videography and VFX. In high school, i decided to study animation. I chose SAE because at that time I saw the work of seniors and SAE alumni; and then i compare it to the work of other campuses, the conclusion: SAE is MUCH, MUCH better.

Have you ever worked on any project during college and what do you do now / what project is currently being worked on?

One of the memorable experiences in college was when I (and the team at that time) won the 1st national competition and continued to represent SAE and Indonesia in the ASIAGRAPH2016 international animation competition. In the 6th semester, while interning at Mythologic Studio, I had the opportunity to work on the IP Balpil and Bhinnekaz trailers, as well as several projects from LINE and ANTAM while completing the Diploma at that time. I am currently continuing my Master’s degree at De Montfort University, Leicester, UK, majoring in Digital Design. The project or research that I am currently working on is the development of a virtual camera system, which is the integration between videography and real-time 3D animation.

What was your experience while studying at SAE? Do you get a lot of useful knowledge after graduation?

SAE is a campus whose students are not much like other campuses. And I think that’s one of the plus points at SAE; where we can all get close and get together between lecturers, seniors, and also between another major. We make a strong connection between each other that will certainly be used later in the world of work. All the knowledge I learned while at SAE is very useful and can really be applied in the professional world of work or to further master’s studies.

Diplomas from SAE can be applied on international campuses, right?

I took Middlesex (MDX) Degree programme. The Diploma is the output of MDX; which in fact, uses the UK education system. So to continue your studies abroad will be very easy, especially if you continue in the UK or Europe. To find scholarships is also easy, for example by getting a first class level has automatically received 20% scholarships from almost all universities in the UK.

From what you’ve done so far, do you have career goals in the future?

My current career goal is to graduating master’s studies with distinction level, after last year successfully graduating with a bachelor arts first class ranking. After that, you can work professionally through the international world such as in the UK or in the US. In the next 5-10 years, I look forward to working in major studios like The Third Floor, Netflix, Marvels, etc.

Messages and suggestions for prospective SAE students and students to stay creative and successful?

Always be open minded to the latest information about technology and creative industries nationally and internationally. Do not be afraid to work, do not be afraid to share your work because the process of learning and self-development begins when you work and can receive criticism for your work.
