Amis A.K.A Mochammad Novaldy is an alumnus of SAE’s Music Business class of 2017. He is currently actively developing Inkaki’s creative community.

Why decide to enroled in Music Business programme?

I loved performing when i was in middle school and high school, and I wanted to perform my own songs, not to cover other people’s songs. Not recognized a long time, i’m confused as well. Until I saw the video recording of Tompi in SAE studio. Then i tried to look for campuses that have major in Music Business. At first I thought Music Business was just learning music theory; it was really learning about businesses. I said to mysef: ‘This is what I’ve been needing all along.’

Have you ever worked on any projects during college and what projects are currently being worked on?

Even in college I still liked performed in bands, and had managed Red Voqus band. I was also the chairman of SAE’s Student Union, but it didn’t work out because my wife gave birth at the time. It’s hard to manage the time. I once helped Es Nanas band from Jogja to arrange their reunion event. At 5th semester I attended college while took care of my child and working as a Gojek driver; and working as Head of Marketing at SPMS Entertainment, one of the labels based in Karawang. My job desc at SPMS include: offline promotions (press conferences and radio tours) and online promotions

I also helped SAE Film programme students to be producers of  video clips. I often also join other film students to shoot, i like do kind of things. Whether as a soundman, producer, or anything that I enjoyed.

After graduating from college in 2020, the project I am currently working on is Inkaki’s creative department. Inkaki is a creative community, but focusing on the business aspect. Many artists have good work but do not know what must be done. I wanna make Inkaki as a bridge between business and art. I want to create a healthy creative industry ecosystem.

I also made a solo project: poetry musicalization. At first I just wrote the poem, then I thought about making the song as well. Then I released the song and merchandise as well; i’ve done it in two days. Unfortunately, at that time I only printed 50 copies; i should have printed 100 copies to make me rich hehehe. Hopefully the music album is released later this year and the poetry’s book is going to release early in 2022. Please listen to the sample here.

Now I also make guitar pick products with friends. I became his co-founder. The product name is Splectrum.

Can you explain more about Inkaki?

To be honest, until today, I didn’t know how to categorize Inkaki. You can call it media or community. It’s like M Bloc. One of the forms of the community is like when I held IG live with Mas Noor Kamil from MASPAM Records and Pamungkas. Then I continued again in the form of a webinar through Zoom. I gathered the participants in Inkaki’s Whatsapp group to share knowledge. I want to meet the participants in person; But because we’re still in pandemic situation and difficult to find a place, so it has not been implemented.

What was your experience while studying at SAE? Do you get a lot of knowledge after graduation?

I can apply the knowledge i got from SAE to any business field; not limited to music business only. I even worked as a marketing company at a sea wine company. I also learned about visual design, audio, videography, photography, recording, merch design, making my own videos, and selling my own work.

Do you have career goals in the future?

My number one goals: I want to make a concert under the sea, like Spongebob, hahaha.

I’m aiming for five years, what I’ve done now can go smoothly. One of them is Inkaki. Hopefully you can get a sponsor, then can make a creative place so that you can hang out while learning about businesses in the creative industry.

Messages and suggestions for prospective SAE students and students to stay creative and successful?

Keep being creative. Don’t just make money. Money will come with creative cool people. While you are still young, get more connections. Hanging out here and there. Keep productive. Multiplying friends is very useful because knowledge is obtained not only from campus.

If there are lecturers who have a project, do not be afraid to ask  them. Don’t be ashamed to ask.

Your future not automatically be bright even when you are SAE graduates. SAE is just the bridge of your career. It can’t guarantee your career will be like going forward if you’re not proactive. It’s a music business, so there’s no guarantee.
